Healthcare providers often lack adequate training to deliver safe, respectful, and inclusive care to 2SLGBTQIA+ patients, an issue that can lead to mistrust and health disparities. In collaboration with Chatham Kent Health Alliance, this quality improvement project will embed Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles into the curricula of the Personal Support Worker and Practical Nurse programs at St. Clair College. Through expert-led training, student engagement, and culturally responsive content, the initiative will help prepare future healthcare professionals, especially those from international backgrounds, to deliver care that is equitable, compassionate, and legally informed.

This project will strengthen cultural competence among nursing students, improve patient-provider interactions, and promote psychological safety in clinical settings. It supports local health system priorities and advances equity in care for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities through education, collaboration, and curricular change.
