This research goal is to challenge this conventional practice and propose a different non-conventional direction for skin cancer detection by utilizing the virtues of non-invasive ultrasound techniques. To achieve this goal, this project aims to develop a high-resolution imaging system that transforms the routine clinical practices, enables detection of superficial structures, allows differentiation between skin layers, and provides details for the analysis of the skin and its appendages in a safe, non-invasive, cost-effective, and timely manner. To develop this novel technique, an innovative micromachined transducer will be designed that is the key component in this ultrasound system. 

The long-term objectives of this research program are to develop advanced methodologies and design strategies with the aim of using state-of-the-art MEMS fabrication techniques to produce leading transformative and cost-effective ultrasonic transducers for routine clinical practice and monitoring to optimize physicians’ and patients’ quality-of-life.
