Dr. Kelly Kennedy is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Windsor. She obtained her PhD in Nursing from the University of Western Ontario. She also completed her MScN and BScN from the University of Windsor.
As a researcher with a pediatric nursing background, Dr. Kennedy is building her program of research focused on supporting children, adolescents, and their families as they navigate life with chronic health conditions. Her work explores the psychosocial challenges that come with managing a chronic illness during critical developmental transitions, such as adolescence and the shift to independent self-management, and how these experiences intersect with identity, mental health, and quality of life. A central focus of her research is on adolescents living with type 1 diabetes, particularly those involved in competitive sports. She aims to better understand their unique experiences and identify the supports they need, to help shape care practices and develop tools that promote their long-term health and well-being. Dr. Kennedy has also contributed to research in maternal and child health, women’s health, and nursing education.
