Bringing together expertise across multiple fields, researchers are developing a flexible, AI-enabled smart insole to measure walking patterns in real-world settings. By integrating soft sensors, motion tracking, lightweight electronics, and artificial intelligence, the team will create and validate a device capable of assessing gait, balance, and foot pressure, including in a pilot study involving people with post-stroke walking challenges.
By moving gait assessment beyond specialized laboratories, this work aims to make mobility monitoring more accessible, enabling earlier intervention, more personalized rehabilitation, and broader access to high-quality care across Windsor-Essex.
