This project will evaluate how AI tools like ChatGPT perform in supporting clinical decision-making in neurosurgery, from triage to treatment planning. Using a large, representative sample of anonymized patient referrals from Windsor Regional Hospital’s urgent neurosurgical clinic, the team will assess ChatGPT’s accuracy in identifying case urgency, generating diagnoses, and recommending treatment plans. The findings will help determine where AI could be safely and effectively integrated into neurosurgical workflows to improve care quality and efficiency.
This study will identify how AI can enhance neurosurgical triage and diagnosis, especially in high-volume or resource-limited clinical settings. Results will support the safe and targeted integration of AI tools to improve patient care and reduce physician workload.
