The purpose of this research is to understand the impact of anti-poverty education for nursing students and prepare them to provide empathetic care to future patients experiencing poverty.

Findings of this preliminary study will be used to inform a future mixed-methods research project examining the impacts to patients, nurses and the community following anti-poverty education, simulation, and service-learning experiences. Using results from the pilot and follow-up research studies, it is our intention to make evidence-informed, patient and community-centered decisions about how to incorporate the concept of poverty into nursing curricula in hopes of improving health care equity, access, and experiences for impoverished patients in Windsor-Essex and abroad.
