Dr. Opeyemi Lawal is a molecular bioscientist and bioinformatician with over 15 years of research and teaching experience, focusing on microbial adaptation, environmental sustainability, and public health. He earned a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology, an MSc in Environmental Microbiology, and a PhD in Molecular Biosciences, and completed postdoctoral and teaching roles at ITQB-NOVA and the University of Guelph. He is now a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the School of the Environment and a researcher at the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER), University of Windsor.
Dr. Lawal’s research focuses on applying a One Health approach to food safety, water quality, and climate resilience, using molecular microbiology, multi-omics, and AI-driven bioinformatics techniques
