Bio

Dr. Vijendra Sharma is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Windsor. Dr. Sharma completed his PhD in Microbiology from Vikram University in Ujjain, India, as well as at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research - National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) in Nagpur, India. 

Prior to joining the University of Windsor, Dr. Sharma was a post-doctoral fellow in the Sagol Department of Neurobiology at the University of Haifa, Israel. He also spent time as a Research Associate in the Department of Biochemistry at McGill University in Montreal under a Canada-Israel Health Research (CIHR) Grant Fellowship. 

Dr. Sharma’s research utilizes a combination of behavioral, electrophysiological, and biochemical approaches to dissect the role of different cell types and neural circuitry in health and disease. He also patented a gene therapy-based therapeutic approach to treat dementia associated with aging and Alzheimer's disease by correcting dysregulated translation in affected brain regions.
