Artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as symptom checkers and virtual health assistants are becoming more common in healthcare. However, it is not always clear when people are comfortable using AI instead of speaking with a healthcare professional. This project will explore how patients decide between AI-based and human-delivered care, and what factors influence their trust and confidence in these options. Through interviews, focus groups, and surveys, researchers will examine when people are willing to use AI, what concerns they have, and how AI may affect the way they seek healthcare.

By understanding when and why people trust AI tools, this research can help create healthcare services that are more accessible, responsive, and centered on patient preferences.
