Sepsis is a serious medical emergency that can become life-threatening if it is not recognized and treated quickly. Identifying sepsis early can be especially challenging in rural emergency departments, where resources and workflows may differ from larger hospitals. This project will review the latest evidence on tools used to detect sepsis and work with local healthcare providers to develop an approach tailored to the needs of Erie Shores HealthCare. The goal is to improve the early identification of patients at risk of sepsis and support faster, more effective care.
By combining research evidence with local expertise, this project could improve patient safety, reduce unnecessary interventions, and provide a model that other rural hospitals can adapt to strengthen sepsis care.
