In Study 2 of this WE SPARK-funded project, we will investigate the feasibility, acceptability, and potential efficacy of an iDBT intervention that we created, an online e-learning skills course called "Wise Minds" with adult participants in the Windsor-Essex community in preparation for a pilot clinical trial. For the purpose of Study 2, we will refer to the intervention as an e-learning skills course and describe the study as one that is examining whether this course is usable, practical, and useful to others in the future.

For Study 2, we hypothesize that (a) the e-learning skills course will be feasible and acceptable (in terms of adoption vs. attrition, adherence to protocol, speed of recruitment), and perceived as credible, acceptable, and usable (as per standard metrics and measures); (b) that the e-learning skills course will be perceived positively, as found in qualitative comments provided at the end of the study; (c) that the e-learning skills course will be engaging, as found in metrics of content completion, completion of quizzes and homework assignments, and viewing of videos.

Finally, we will also explore whether time spent on the e-learning skills course leads to reductions in symptoms such as depression, anxiety, and substance use to inform future trial designs and determine a sufficient sample size to detect symptom changes for an upcoming pilot trial investigation.

What Does The Study Involve?

We are looking for participants to enroll in a self-guided, 8-week e-learning skills course designed to understand its usability and potential usefulness to others in the future. We are looking for individuals who are aged 18 and up, residing in Ontario, are fluent in English, have symptoms of depression/anxiety, and are not currently receiving any psychotherapy.

What’s involved?

  • Quick phone screen (~10 minutes)
  • One virtual baseline session with an interview & questionnaires (~60 minutes)
  • Follow-up questionnaires at 4 and 8 weeks (~15 minutes each)
  • Spend 1 to 2 hours on the e-learning skill course content per week for up to 8 weeks.

What’s in it for me?

  • Receive free access to an e-learning skills course.
  • Provide early feedback on its useability, design, and features for its future use.
  • Receive reimbursement for your participation in the form of an e-gift card.
